“Where no one knows”

http://bit.ly/s4PTJV

I want to go where no one knows,

the grass is green and the good news always grows.

I want to be where the path is not yet overrun.

I want to go where I feel at ease,

this loneliness can finally find some peace.

I want to be where I don’t feel so overcome.

Dec 21 2011

There have been countless nights when I’ve put on some music and just let it play in the background while I’m doing other things, or with other people. You catch glimpses of the songs and some of  them still touch you and take you to that place that made them meaningful to you.

It’s a strange feeling to think that I might be playing in the background of someones night, right now.  The melody playing while you make dinner, or have drinks with friends or sit alone and hope things get better.  Whichever the case, thank you for bringing me into your home.  I hope to never overstay my welcome.

steady (lyrics and chords)

I’ve had several people ask me for the chords for this song, so here they are!

(A video of me playing the song, in case you don’t own a copy of “The Bottom of the Sea” yet.)

STEADY

Key of Eb (Capo on the 3rd frett)

Eb                                                           Ab

In the hull of this ship, there’s a home that we’ve built

Eb                                                   Bb

Myself and each soul of this crew.

Eb                                                      Ab

And ‘most every night by the oil lamp light,

Eb           Bb           Eb

I still think of you.

The calm, quiet weather, it held us together,

but the skies, they soon changed their hue.

And in the black of the night, you vanished and I

was still in love with you.

Eb        Bb         Cm

Steady as she goes.

Eb                                                                              Ab

There are those that stay with us through each ebb and flow.

Eb                    Bb                      Cm

They are the ones we call home.

Eb           Bb       Eb

Steady as she goes.

You drifted away on tumultuous waves,

and your heart upon each new wind blows.

I’ll never forget, in your wake what you left.

Steady as she goes.

A piece of a man who could not understand

what would make you go,

While others who came through the same storm remained,

All you left were your clothes.

Steady as she goes.

There are those that stay with us through each ebb and flow.

They are the ones we call home.

Steady as she goes.

There comes a time in all of our lives

When we find out of what we are made.

In a sea of lost causes and all of these flaws

is there anything worth being saved?

Some stars shine bright, may not shed guiding light,

but delay us from courses outlaid.

But there are those, there are those

compasses that have remained.

Steady as she goes.

There are those that stay with us through each ebb and flow.

They are the ones we call home.

Steady as she goes.

(bridge)

Eb                   Cm

I remember you.

Eb

You couldn’t hold on, you drifted away,

           Ab                                         Bb

Well, I’ve done the same to a few.

                      Eb                     Cm

Oh oh oh… I remember you.

Eb

There’s no one to blame, but the wind and the rain,

                    Ab                               Bb

there was nothing you could do.

                    Bb7                           Cm

And we’ll find our own way home.

Eb        Bb         Cm

Steady as she goes.

Eb                                                                              Ab

There are those that stay with us through each ebb and flow.

Eb                    Bb                      Cm

They are the ones we call home.

Eb           Bb       Fm Cm

Steady as she goes. (Pronounce:  go-ohs  Fm on GO Cm on OHS  literally like one strum on Fm)

Eb           Bb           Eb

Steady as she goes.

Dead Reckoning

Out to the ocean, the empty unknown,

A river of words from your lips.

I was entranced, ensnared and entwined,

the pendulum sway of your hips.

I was so reckless, desperate and tired,

A desert of saltwater is-

A rising and falling calamitous calling,

a grave for the ghosts on these ships.

Who are we to blame,

When the bitter winds carry us away?

I thought I was safe,

but you dragged me further than I could navigate

by dead reckoning alone.

I left my good home to come out to you,

left all of my family behind,

for a promise of love from your forked silver tongue

and a touch I would grow to despise.

You left me stranded in waters unknown,

no telling the truth from the lies.

Provisions were lost, divisions that cost me

More than the sum of our lives.

(chorus)

I’ve been bailing out my little boat

that I’ve been sailing in,

Pails of insecurities,

Relying in the wind.
